Requested: Advice On Knees
posted on 11/20/2009
I was given sodium hyualronate in June 2008. Each of the three injections felt exactly the same; the same sharp, but very quick ,passing pain. Two months or so after the first series of shots, I was running very well, like I hadn't done in some time. Unfortunately, I ended up injured again, because I was overdoing it, I suppose.
I was looking forward to my next series of shots. Nine months after the first series, I went back to the VA. I had a different doctor. He swears he gave me three shots, but I don't believe him. Only the last one felt like the first three had, and I distinctly remember the sensation I had: I could feel the liquid running through my knee. I felt almost nothing the
fourth time, and the fifth time was a very painful experience, as a trainee pulled 57ccsof water from my knee. (I've been told that's a lot)
Without my knees, I can't do squat. I understand that I've damaged my knees considerably. That's why I want a solution so badly. I've been told I'm too young for knee replacements. I'M 43.
I'm at the point where I decided that I can't run around anymore so all I do is try to stay trim... but maybe someone out there has some good advice.

There's another type of operation called knee resurfacing , where they do not replace the knee but just resurface the joint. It's much less invasive and may be an option for you. It used to be there were only a few surgeons in the world that could do it as it's very technical but now with robot assisted surgery its becoming more common.
